A prayer based on Psalm 22
Thank you Jesus,
For your willingness to suffer for us. For not giving up, when you were forsaken by God. For not answering the taunts of those who walked by. For not giving into the fear or the pain. We cannot imagine the depths of your suffering. Forgive us, we are so used to the story, it dulls our wonder. So we pause, to say thank - you Jesus, for suffering in our place.
Loving Father,
When we are surrounded by darkness, cause us to remember you are still there. When we hear the ridicule of our neighbours, colleagues and friends, may we drown them out with the sound of your Son leading your people in praise. When we doubt you in the moment, remind us of the eternal truth of who you are. When our bodies are wracked with pain, may we taste afresh of your deep love for us.
Eternal God,
We praise you that in Jesus Christ, our future is certain. The dawn has come, the day is growing. Thank you for the feast you have prepared for us. We praise you that poor and rich, young and old, every tribe, nation, people and tongue shall be there. May the anticipation of that feast, keep our lives centered in you. May the hope of glory, shine through the muck, darkness and pain of these days.
In Jesus our Saviours name we pray,
Amen.
And here is a song which reflects some of the Psalm.
