A prayer based on Colossians 1:15-23
Lord of all creation,
We worship you - the one who made all things.
We praise you for the beauty, power and mystery of this created world. You flung stars into space and spoke galaxies into existence, so we worship you. We bow before the one who made rulers, thrones, power and authorities. We say, you are the greatest.
We worship you - the one who holds all things together.
Without you, the world would spin out of control. Without you, its resources would be used up. Without you, evil would abound. We praise you for your grace in sustaining us - giving us our daily bread. Providing for our needs. Withholding the hand of evil in the world, and overcoming the sin in our hearts.
Lord of the church,
We worship you - the one who is head of the church.
Without you, the church could not exist. You called the church into existence. You sustain its life. In you, people are brought from all nations and walks of life, to be made into your people, your body, the church. We praise you for the life, unity and peace we know in you. We thank you that you where willing to come into the mess of the world, and take the punishment for sin, so that we may be at peace with you. We praise you, the firstborn from the dead, for the life you give to your church.
Our great redeemer,
We confess that we fail to walk in your ways.
You are the one we are made for, but we so often live for lesser things. You are the head of the church, but we look to other things to give us direction and sustain our live together.
Lord we are thrilled, that our sins are forgiven. Because Jesus died, we are holy, blameless and free from any accusation. Thank you Jesus.
Our hearts are prone to wonder. Bind them to yourself. May we never move from the hope of the gospel. May we hold fast to you, as you promise to do to us.
In our loving Saviours name we pray,
Amen.
