Sovereign Grace

A prayer based upon Joshua 9

Sovereign God,You are Lord of all.You rule over your church.You work through the mess of our sin and failing.We are so thankful that your purposes do not fail,that your plans are not thwarted.We praise you for your faithfulness,for you steadfast love and grace.Gracious God,You do not treat us with justice,You do not give us what we deserve,And you don't give us simply what we need.Your grace runs deeper, your love is more generous.You lavish your gifts upon us.You save us, and bring us into your family.We are your children, heirs of your promise.We are seated at your table, feasting at your banquet.We are sorry for the times we have ignored or doubted you.We are sorry for not recognising all you have given to us.Make us a people of prayer, those who look to you and trust you, at all times and in all circumstances.Make us a people who walk in your ways. When we wonder, bring us back.When we make a mess of things, may we clear things up in a way that honours you.May we always seek to 'save your face' not our own.Make us a community of grace.As we have experience your gracious welcome, forgiveness and provision.So may we be gracious, welcoming and forgiving.May we never hold back our love, time, energy or resources.May we love each other, as you love us.In Jesus, our Lord and Saviours name we pray,Amen.
