When was the last time you stood in wonder? What was it that caught your eye? What grabbed your attention?
What is it that grabs the Psalmists attention?
Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious. Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing the praises of your name.” Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!
Psalm 66:1-6
So, what is it that grabs the Psalmist's attention?
It's not a what - it's a who! It's God himself.
Yes, the Psalmist does speak of the things he has done. Yes, he encourages us to look at God's mighty acts. But first up he says - 'Sing the glory of His name'
God is awesome.
His enemies cringe before him. His people bow down in worship.
Why?
Because, God is awesome.
Before we go running to thank him for what he has provided. Before we ask him for what we need. Even before we praise him for the wonder of redemption. We must stop, look, gaze in awestruck wonder and praise HIM.
So don't rush on. Pause. Look. And praise our great God.
