When you go on holiday, do you come back with a lighter or heavier case? I guess it depends where you went and what you travelled with - if you went self catering and brought a load of food, the hope is the way back you won't be carrying any.
Or to switch the image, there is something wrong if the delivery driver or postman comes back with as much stuff as the set out with!
Keep that image in mind as we come to todays verse.
He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.Romans 4:25
This is another rich verse - let's dig into it with that journey image.
The verse tells us that Jesus traveled into the tomb carrying our sins, and when he walked out of the tomb, he had left them behind.
Do you see the hope this is bring to us. We have handed over our sins to Jesus, he took them - and went to death for them. From our perspective they are gone. He didn't bring them back to us. He took them into the tomb - into death - and he left them there. He doesn't pass them back to us. They are gone, buried, never to rise again. They cannot be held against us.
That is what justification means. That is one of the things Jesus resurrection proves.
'And we are raised with him' Live in that truth today.
