Good news!

We have news 24 hours a day - on websites and TV channels - I wonder how many minutes are dedicated to 'good news stories'? At a time when we long for a good news story, today's passage rings loud and clear.

After John was put in prision, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. "The time has come," he said. "The Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!"Mark 1:14-15

Our passage only gives us the headline - it will take the rest of Mark's gospel to unpack this good news. But here is some of the things which we learn from the headline.

We live in a time of good news. A time when a new kingdom, a better kingdom has broken in. The Kingdom of God has drawn near. We know this to be true, as the King himself is telling us. Jesus is the King. And he has defeated his and our greatest enemies - Satan, sin and death.

We need to respond to the good news. Repent and believe - that's an invitation to respond. To stop running from God. To become part of the kingdom.

We need to be people of good news. In a time when the news is dominated with fear - we have a different note to strike, good news to proclaim. Lets be people of good news today.
