Life-giving truth

We continue to see how foolish it is to disregard the wisdom of the cross. As today's reading shows, what took place at the cross transforms us now.

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.Colossians 2:13-15

This is a rich passage, one to learn, chew over and digest.

To highlight just one thing here - do you notice how this passage 'plays with time'? It does so in a way which underlines the significance of an event which took place over 2000 years ago for your life now.

Here's what I mean - you were dead in your sins BUT God has made you alive WITH Christ. At the very moment he walked out of the tomb, you walked out with him. Death should not fear you, as you have already walked out of the place of the dead!

As for your sins - they are gone. They where nailed to the cross with Christ. They died with him. He paid the full price for them all, way back then. So although you struggle with sin now, it really is an unfair fight - you are alive, with the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. You sin - it is struggling for breath, nailed on the cross with Jesus Christ.

That is life transforming truth. Get the image. Live the truth.
