Never alone

It must have been a lot to take in. There was so much going on that night. Jesus was clear - he would no longer be with them.
His disciples minds must have been all over the place. Their hearts would have been torn asunder.
Jesus wouldn't be with them any more. He was going to die.
Yet, Jesus still loved them. And he wasn't going to do anything that would harm them. He wasn't going to leave them alone.
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
John 16:7
Jesus will no longer stand in front of them, and lead them on the road ahead. But he will be with them. He is sending the Advocate, his Spirit, to dwell inside them. So in a sense, Jesus will be closer to them than ever before. And he will never, ever, leave them.
We stand in a different era, from when Jesus is speaking. We no dwell in the age of the Spirit. We don't have to wait like these first disciples. When we trust in Jesus, he sends his Spirit to dwell in us. From the very first moment.
What a blessing it is to have God's Spirit dwelling in us. We are never alone. We are never under equipped. We are his temples.
