No not by might

I marvel at great feats of strength and endurance. The annual world's strongest man competition or Tour de France show the limits we can push the human body to.
Yet when it comes to the Christian life and ministry, I often think, I don't know enough. At times I find myself too tired to do anything more. I can look around the breadth of the church and in my more cynical moments think 'really, this is the team you have left to carry out your mission Lord!' Then there is the constant realisation that I can only sow the seed, I have not control over how it is received!
It is at times like these, it is good to remember and be thankful for the Holy Spirit. Our readings for the next 8 days focus on the Holy Spirit, as tomorrow is Pentecost Sunday.
So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not my might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' say the Lord Almighty."
Zechariah 4:6
When you are discouraged or cynical and full of doubt - is there a better word to hear?
When you are full of self confidence, is there a more important word to keep front and centre?
May we never forget - it is not by or strength or ability, but by God's Spirit.
Here's a song which helps us keep this truth deep in our hearts.
