This morning in our service we remembered the 100th Anniversary of the armistice signed at 5am on 11th November 1918, which brought about an end to the First World War.
This armistice lead to peace, for a time. Since it was signed, there have been too many conflicts and wars, which have brought hurt to many people. We may not have known war as some have known it, but neither can we say we know peace.
Yet a vision of peace flows through the whole bible. We looked at one vision in Micah 4, where we read:
This is a vision, which is brought about by God. He brings peace, as many nations come and say
Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,to the temple of the God of Jacob.
True peace is centred on God himself. And it cannot be separated from him or found anywhere else. Peace and security are ultimately found only in him.
It is important for us to realise that - as we live in the last days. We know people turning to the Lord and finding peace in him. We seek to be agents of his peace in families, communities, and workplaces. As we do so, let us never hide or sideline or minimise Jesus. Without him, the Prince of Peace we would not know or ever experience true pease.
