Praise Him! Seek Him!

There is a dynamic in today's Psalm, which encourages us not to stop short in our worship of God.

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

Psalm 105:1-4

We worship God today, because of all that he has done in the past. The core of that is our praise of Jesus Christ - as we declare all his life, death, resurrection and ascension has achieved for us. Yet God does not live on the glory of one action in the past - no matter how great that action was!

God is living and active. We have 2000+ years of the growth of the church to praise him for. And because he is alive - we must look to him for the future too. That is why the Psalmist says, seek his face always.

Now, we have got to get in our head what seeking God's face means. When we hear seek, we think search. We picture a game of hide and seek. But God is not hiding. Nor has he covered his face - it is clearly revealed in Jesus Christ.

So what is going on? We are being reminded to look to God, and keep looking at him. To trust him to work in our lives and communities today, as he has done in the past. We shouldn't be seeking other ways - no seek him. And then stand back and watch as he works.

Praise God for all he has done and keep trusting him to act in the future.
