Our readings, for the next 3 weeks take the theme of God's power in our weakness.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121
The Psalm begins in honest fear. A confession of weakness - as the Psalmist lifts his eyes to the hills, he sees and senses danger. He knows there is no way that he can succeed.
And then he recalls - who made these hills? Who is Lord over all? Whose side am I on?
The wonderful comfort of the Christian is knowing that God is on their side. He watches over them - night and day, never sleeping, never weakening. The Lord will protect them.
That does not mean, we shall never sense fear again. It does not mean that we shall avoid all illness and pain. No - life is tough. But it does mean, that the Lord himself is the one who allowing all that happens in our life, and it is for our good.
