Renewed Strength

The pace of life, the onset of age, the size of a task - all can make us feel weak. Where do we go to be refreshed? Where can we find strength?

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

The questions at the start of our reading are brilliant. They call us back to what we know. They save us from being foolish and deluding ourselves. They bring an earth reality - no matter how strong you thing your are, you will grow tired. They bring to mind the paradox of the Christian life - weakness is the way.

You see, we don't need to know, that we can find strength in God, simply to have a back up plan. We don't keep him as our 'emergency rations.' No, weakness is the way.

We need to know that we are week, and rely daily on him.

We need to trust him, every moment, all of the time - not simply in case of emergecny/

When we feel competent, we must look to him.

When we feel lost, we must look to him.

At all times, we must trust him.

Weakness is the way; walk in that way and you will find unlimited strength from God himself.
