Spending time with Jesus

I have always been challenged and encouraged by Acts 4:13

"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."

This morning, we seen the need to spend time with Jesus.  Here are some practical suggestions about how to do this.

  • Read an advent book

We recommended two this morning.

by Sinclair Ferguson or

by Paul Tripp.    You can find out a little more about each book by clicking on the titles.  They are both available online at places like Evangelical Bookshop, The Good Book Company or 10ofthose.   You can also get ebooks through Amazon.  Or pick up a copy in The Faith Mission in town.  Advent begins this Saturday so get prepared!

  • Read a gospel

If you start now, you can read a chapter a day and finish a whole gospel by the end of the year.

  • Technology is your friend

Sign up to a bible reading plan on The Bible App (search YouVersion in your App store).  Or get daily devotional emails, from the Scottish Bible Society   Or perhaps for the new year... a bible in the year reading plan here.

  • People are your friends, partners, encouragers!

Technology is great, but nothing beats a real person!  So share with someone what you plan to do.  Ask them to check in with you every so often and find out how you are getting on, and what you are learning as you spend time with Jesus every day.  Why not committ to sending somone a text, or setting up a WhatsApp group where you simply share a verse that encouraged you that day. So go on - spend time with Jesus this week!
