Stress these things

The tyranny of the urgent causes us to move from one thing to the next. When meetings and deadlines loom, we don't get the chance to step back and take in the bigger picture. Right now, we do! And having seen the bigger picture, we need to keep it before our eyes!
That need is not new. That's why when Paul wrote to Titus, he gave a big picture view and then said - stress these things. Keep them in view. Remember them. Let them drive you forward.
Here's what he said, given in todays reading:
At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
Titus 3:3-7
What is the bigger picture?
You have been saved. You are transformed. The Holy Spirit has been poured out on you. You are no longer bound by sin. That is your former life. Now, you live for God. Now, you devote yourself to doing good.
So make sure, that you do what is good and right.
Devote yourself to this and nothing else.
And don't be deceived or dragged down by the old way of life - that is NOT who you are now.
Make sure you keep the big picture in focus today, and tomorrow!
