The Humble Spirit

Yesterday we discovered that we need to be humble. God's kingdom is not built by our might, plans or wisdom - it is built by his Spirit.

In todays reading we discover, that even the mighty Spirit is humble.

When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father —the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

John 15:26-27

Here, Jesus is speaking. It is just a few hours before he will be arrested, 'tried' and condemned. He reassures his disciples that they will not be alone. He is sending them a gift - the Holy Spirit.

Do you see what the Spirit does? He testifies about Jesus. He speaks about Jesus. He lets the world know who Jesus is. He makes sense of all that is going on - as he reveals the depth of Jesus work for us.

The Spirit shines the light on Jesus. He doesn't big himself up. He makes sure that Jesus goes front and centre. That's why he is the humble Spirit.

And we honour the Holy Spirit, by making sure that Jesus, not the Spirit, is front and centre.
