The key

Yesterday, we met someone who tested Jesus. He could hold his own in debate, yet Jesus had a parting shot for him - you're not far from the Kingdom. He understood much, but he wasn't there yet. Today, we learn the key to being part of God's kingdom.

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him."Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."John 3:1-3

So what is the key? Being born again.

It is not to do with what you know, or have observed. God's kingdom can't be discerned or entered in that way. His kingdom is spiritual. To see it, enter it, be a part of it, you must be spiritually alive - born again.

The image is simple, but understanding it in practice is quite complex. We can see that if you read on in the conversation in John 3. There is a depth to this image which means we keep growing in our experience of what being 'born again' means in practice.

Here's one to ponder. Yesterday we learnt the greatest commandment - to love God with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength. Here's the thing, when you are born again, that commandment is not a duty, it is a delight. Your spiritual heart is beating, it is responding to the love of God. Your love for him grows each day. Loving him, is a delight.

Do you know this delight?
