Tomato sauce; red wine; oil and grease - stubborn stains that are hard to remove from our clothes. When it comes to these stains, the best thing to do is to avoid getting them in the first place! Other than that, ask your granny what she would have used!
Joking aside, there are some stains, which we can't avoid. Each one of us is stained by sin. The things we have done. The actions of others against us, leaves a mark upon us which we long to, but fail to remove.
The Bible 2020 readings take a new turn now, focusing on the stain of sin. As we look at these passages over the next couple of weeks, we face the stain of sin in our own life, and we discover the promise of cleansing through the grace of God.
'Come now, lest us settle the matter'says the Lord.'Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as now;though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.' Isaiah 1:18
And there you have it - you can't avoid the stain of sin. So don't deny your sin.
You can't clean yourself up - but there is hope. Come to the Lord. Let him settle the matter for you.
What are you doing with your sin today?
