Waiting is hard. We are being taught lessons in patience at the minute, and I'm pretty sure we all have more room to grow in that area!
From kids waiting for Christmas, to waiting for wedding days, holidays or retirement - waiting it hard.
And it is particularity hard, when you don't know exactly how long you are to wait for. That was the experience of Jesus first disciples.
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 1:4-5
The disciples where simply told to wait for the gift of the Spirit. He was coming to them, and they better not go anywhere, attempt anything before he arrived.
Of course, as we live in the age of the Spirit, we don't have to wait. We receive the gift along of the Spirit along with the gift of the salvation. So our instruction is not to wait but to act. We don't have to keep looking for more, but open our eyes to what we already have.
Let us not neglect the gift we have already received.
