Guilt increases with knowledge.
If you know more, then you are bound to act on the knowledge you have. If you don't your are guilty.
A trivial example could be if someone asks two people for directions, the first is a local, the second is a tourist. You would expect the local to know the correct and best way. On the other hand, you couldn't hold anything against the tourist - they can innocently say, I'm not from around here.
Keep that principal in mind as we come to today's reading.
"Announce this to the descendants of Jacoband proclaim it in Judah:Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see,who have ears but do not hear.Should you not fear me?" declares the Lord."Should you not tremble in my presence?I made the sand a boundary for the sea,an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;they may roar, but they cannot cross it.But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts;they have turned aside and gone astray. They do not say to themselves,'Let us fear the Lord our God,who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.'Your wrongdoings have kept these away;your sins have deprived you of good." Jeremiah 5:20-25
The issue is not trivial. God's people are ignoring him, they do not fear him. And they of all people should know better.
God is the powerful creator of all the earth. He set it in order and controls all things - that truth is there for all to see. And the people of Judah, also have his Word - so they should see this.
Yet the don't.
They are foolish and senseless. Why?
Because of their sin.
Sin blinds, so we can't see.
Sin rewires us, so we can't make sense of this world.
Sin is serious.
Wake up to the damage you sin causes you. And look to God to cleanse, forgive and remake you.
