What does this mean?

It was the question people where asking. It's a natural one to ask when something is going on. We want to know more that what's happening. We want to probe deeper than the event.

And so it was on the day of Pentecost. The disciples speaking in a whole variety of languages caused quite a stir, so people wanted to know 'What does this mean?'

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

Acts 2:14-17

Peter gives answer, and to make sense of it all he reaches back to OT prophecy. He says, there was a day we where all waiting for - and it is arrived.

We have stepped into a new age. We are living in a new time. We now live in the last days.

The last days! An expression which can fill people with fear - they sound dark, ominous. Far from it says Peter - this is the age of the Spirit. The time when we shall all received the gift of the Holy Spirit. He shall dwell in us. He shall equip us. We shall see and speak in his power. And as we do so, we shall see God's kingdom come, here on earth.

What an exciting time to live in! Don't forget that as you go about your business today!
